In the ResRequest architecture either the Reservations Office or the Web system is classified as the master system. Certain functionality is restricted to the master system. This function provides the facility for an authorised user to change the respective status of the web and Reservations Office systems / databases. Ideally, the function should always be a dual toggle operation initiated from the offline (Reservations Office) system. If this dual toggle is executed successfully there is no danger of both systems ending up with the same status.
However, we have to provide the facility to set the status of each system individually to cater for the possibility that one of the systems may become unavailable, e.g. due to a system or network failure. When this one-sided functionality is used the onus is on the user to prevent a situation where both systems are operating as masters.
